Living a little greener...

I have recently been challenged. Ok, not really, but I take it as a challenge since it is something I will have to try extra hard to do. TwitterMoms and Airwear have teamed up to encourage other environmentally-conscious consumers to share their visions of a greener world. I have not always been the "greenest" gal, but I have definitely started trying different eco-friendly ways of living in our household. Here are a few things we have been doing around our house to live a little greener:
- Reusing shopping bags at the grocery store. If for some reason we need to use some of their plastic bags, we save them and use them for dog poop clean up, bathroom trashcan liners, storing dirty or wet clothes when traveling, packing material when shipping, and more!
- We have recently been walking down to our local farmers market on Fridays. It's only 10 minutes away, so we save on gas, get a little exercise and take advantage of local produce.
- We have a toy recycling system: There is a group of 4 of my friends all with children around the same age. Any toys we have, we rotate. Kids get over toys extremely quickly anyway, so this is great in that we really don't have to do much buying. TIP: if you have nobody to do a toy exchange with and your kids are toddler ages, hide a few of your childs toys away for about a month. When you take them back out, it's like new again! Trust me, this works with MJ all of the time!
- I started taking people's recyclables, mostly bottles and cans, to the local recycling center once a month. They don't mind, I am actually doing them a favor. I also get an extra 20 bucks!
I know that we still have a long way to go, but I am proud to say that I have already started! Every little step counts towards the greater goal, so look at the bigger picture.
