Do you dye eggs for the Easter holiday? We sure do, it has been a family tradition ever since I can remember.

The kids and I decorated Easter eggs this past weekend, we had so much fun! I recall decorating eggs as a child, we always bought our PAAS Easter egg decorating kit and went to town with the beautiful colors.

Although I have been dying eggs for years, I had absolutely no idea that using vinegar instead of water in your egg dye actually makes the colors on your egg turn out brighter, no kidding! We used our PAAS kit along with Heinz vinegar and our eggs turned out great, much brighter than they have in the past!

We decided to use 6 of the color capsules from the PAAS decorating kit, I poured 3 tablespoons of vinegar in each of the little bowls and MJ dropped the capsules in. They fizzled for a few minutes as they dissolved, he thought that was pretty cool.

We went to work, dying a few eggs in all different colors. This one started in yellow, migrated to the purple, and is sitting in the orange in this photo.

There is a pretty cool rubber band egg dyeing trick that we tried out on one of MJ’s eggs, it left really cool lines in a random pattern. You tie rubber bands around your egg before dyeing and remove them once the egg is dry.

MJ, proud of his rubber band egg. This one mingled on and off in the green and blue.

The drying process, the eggs are sitting in the cool cut-out egg holders on the back of the PAAS box. Can you see how bright the colors are? I can totally tell the difference, there is less of a pastel finish that I normally see when using plain water.

We broke out the stickers and egg stands that come in the PAAS decorating kit to give the finishing touches. I have a few color capsules left, so I think I might fire up the decorating station one last time this weekend.

MJ wanted to continue decorating, but we ran out of eggs. There is a new Heinz and PAAS Egg Decorator iPad app that he can use to digitally decorate eggs all night long! It’s cute, you choose your colors and click to decorate with a paint brush, chalk, glitter, digital stickers, and more.  Also, for every egg “dyed” on the app, Heinz and PAAS will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It’s free too, so this was one of those no-brainer downloads! Fun app for Easter.

When you decorate your eggs this year, be sure to try out Heinz vinegar and the PAAS Easter egg decorating kit as a pair, our eggs turned out great!
