Traveling Safe With Diono RadianRXT Convertible Car Seat

Tis the season to… travel!

That’s right folks, with all of the family obligations we have scattered about the state, we’re taking flights, road trips, and more! Safety is of utmost concern, so I want to make sure to keep up with the top products for my family. I got a chance to review the Diono RadianRXT Convertible Car Seat, oh how do I love thee! How about an infant seat, toddler seat, and booster all in one? Yup, no need to purchase a new seat at every growth spurt.  Those of you seasoned mothers know what i’m getting at. The Diono RadianRXT was designed to fit children through the years. As they grow, this seat is able to adjust beautifully and grow with them! This super versatile car seat spans from 5 to 45 pounds rear-facing, 20 to 80 pounds forward facing, and up to 120 pounds in booster mode.

Opening the box was probably the hardest part of this whole thing, it was nice and sealed. The contents include RadianRXT Convertible Car Seat, one cup holder, rear-facing base, infant support cushions, SafeStop harness, rear-facing tether connector strap, and instruction manual. I love that I didn’t really have to put anything together, it’s pretty much ready to go. Pictured is the Diono RadianRXT Convertible Booster Car Seat in storm. They also come in blue, red, purple, spring floral print and beige.

Since Girly Girl is closing in on 2 years old, I am going to focus on reviewing the seat for her specific needs at 25 lbs. A few neat facts:

Sit rear facing up to 45 pounds – This is a big deal for us. We just decided to switch Girly Girl to a forward facing seat, but we had her rear facing for quite some time. Many car seats do not provide extended rear facing options, the Diono RadianRXT does all the way up to 45 lbs! Peace of mind for any parent, really, since car seats that are rear facing are found to be safer for the child.

Straight forward restraint system – There is no need to panic trying to figure out how to secure this seat in the car. Choose from using the cars seat belt or the SuperLATCH system, which stores nicely in compartments behind the seat when not in use. The belt path is clearly marked for rear and forward facing seats, you’ll easily feed the seat belt or latch system through and secure the buckles onto the car. There is also a rear facing tether for added restraint. Once the seat is installed, the 5-point harness in the seat is fully adjustable with 12 height positions.

Safety Concerns – In addition to the superior restraint system mentioned above, this seat has been crash tested at it’s highest weight capacities and meets all federal standards. The special SafeStop energy absorbing harness provides bungee-like absorption which reduces impact on the child in the case of an accident. It is rated for 10 years of life, so hand me downs are definitely ok!

Comfort – I am a “get up and go” kind of mama, so I am always out and about with the kids in tow. Although the Diono RadianRXT is made with a sturdy steel frame, it is completely lined with EPS foam around the head and sides for a little cushion. The cloth surface is pretty soft, there is a longer seat bottom for leg support and the seat actually expands on the sides to accommodate a growing child. Also, there are two forward facing recline positions, which will come in handy on our road trips!

Transportation and Storage – Traveling with and transporting this seat from car to car is a breeze. It folds up nicely and closes securely with a velcro strap. You can then easily transport it, carry it, store it, etc.

The life of this seat could last for quite a while! When Girly Girl grows out of her toddler seat days, she’ll be able to use it as a booster. No need to buy another seat. Another cool thing: if you have a large family or multiples, three of these seats can fit comfortably in most back seats. Visit Diono.com to learn more about this convertible car seat, I really do approve and I cannot think of any gripes with it. This car seat is currently on sale at Amazon 🙂
