I love a celebration, we get all into the spirit around here! Will you be dressing up in St. Patrick’s Day clothing this year? In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, the kids and I decided we’d try our hand at making green whoopie pies!
These are extremely simple to make, you basically bake small cake rounds and fill them with creamy frosting of your choice. Tint white cake mix with any food coloring, this was especially fun for the kids to make a green cake! If you are looking to enhance your St. Patrick’s Day festivities, easy green whoopie pies are the way to go. Learn how to make whoopie pies…
St. Patty’s Day Green Whoopie Pies
Ingredients
- 1 box Betty Crocker white cake mix, plus the ingredients to prepare
- McCormicks green food coloring extract
- 2 cans of frosting, your choice
Prepare your cake mix as directed. Add about 50 drops of McCormick’s green food coloring extract to the mixture and stir until completely mixed. Grab a greased cookie sheet and SLOWLY pour cake the green batter into equal sized rounds. I emphasize slowly because the batter runs quickly, start small as the batter will spread. Mine came out pretty big, I wish they were smaller. Bake for about 10 minutes, remove from oven and let cool.
Liberally frost one of your whoopie pie halves on the flat side. Take another half and sandwich it on top of the frosting. At this point, you’re basically done, but you can add sprinkles and other fun garnish. You’re in whoopie pie heaven, such a delicious St. Patrick’s Day dessert!
I also made cute little shamrocks with my heart shaped cutter from FunBites. Just 3 little hearts (or 4 for good luck) can make such cute serving decor! Hope you like my St. Patrick’s Day ideas. Enjoy!
