Bacon and Chocolate Caramel Pecan Candy Recipe

A caramel and chocolate candy with sea salt

If for some reason you had an interest in drooling today, I’m thinking this chocolate bacon bark will do the trick. I have quite the sweet tooth, so I love to have something around to curb the cravings as they arise. I saw this recipe with a combination of flavors – bacon, whiskey, chocolate, caramel – that I could not resist. Daily. So what’s a gal to do? Make homemade candy, of course!

Fresh, homemade caramel? Dark chocolate? Pecans? BACON? Oh yes, this is happening. We love a good chocolate dessert recipe and try to indulge occasionally at home (see our oven s’mores cookie cups recipe and our no-bake dark chocolate OREO truffles). I couldn’t do with the whiskey in the original recipe I saw, so I had to adapt it for familial reasons. We came up with a caramel and chocolate bacon candy recipe and it is so rich and tasty!

say that 5 times fast

Ingredients:

  • 24 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 6 strips bacon, crumbled
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup pecans
  • 1 tsp. sea salt

Step 1: Make the homemade caramel

The first step to making this dark chocolate caramel bacon bark recipe is to combine the sugar and water in a pan over medium heat. When the sugar crystals have dissolved, turn the heat up to HIGH and allow the mixture to boil. Add your stick of butter, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes or until it turns a brownish color. Add the cream and stir to combine thoroughly. Set the caramel aside.

Step 2: Prepare the chocolate bacon bark candy

Line a 9×9 baking dish with wax or parchment paper. Melt your chocolate chips over a double broiler or in a microwave and pour half of it onto the bottom of the baking dish. Spread the chocolate evenly, sprinkle the pecans and 3/4 of the bacon crumbles on top of it, and place in the refrigerator until the chocolate sets.

Once complete, remove from the refrigerator and pour the homemade caramel sauce evenly into the baking dish, over the chocolate. Add the remaining chocolate on top of the caramel, spreading evenly across the baking dish, and sprinkle the top with the rest of the bacon crumbles and sea salt. Place in the refrigerator until completely set, my dark chocolate bacon bark took a total of 1 hour.

Step 3: Remove chocolate caramel candy from the pan and slice

Pull the wax paper out of the baking dish with the chocolate caramel pecan candy inside and set it onto a cutting board. You can cut the bark into pieces with a knife or break it up. If it’s a little too hard to cut, let it sit out for 15 minutes or so and try again. Taste it. I am guessing you made some sort of “oh my heavens” comment or gesture, I did too! To keep this dark chocolate caramel pecan bacon candy recipe fresh, store it sealed in the refrigerator.

  • Has anyone tried making this with a high grade Caramel topping such as Mrs Richards? I would love to skip the caramel step. My work schedule is nuts!

  • The amount of ingredients are good for this recipe but the instructions on how to cook the caramel are very off. You cook the sugar and water with a bit of lemon juice until it turns a bit darker and has thickened. You do not stir it. You swirl the pot around to keep mixing. The butter goes in after the mixture thickens and then the milk. I tried this recipe 3 times before I looked up on the internet on how to cook caramel. Didn’t want anyone else to go through the same thing. Delicious once made properly.

  • Did anyone who made this recipe find the caramel did not set? What is the secret? Mine didn’t turn to a slightly brown after 5 minutes of cooking. I am just doing another batch. Going to a “All about bacon” party this afternoon.

  • I have been looking for something to make for my brother for the holidays and this is the perfect recipe! Oh man it looks so yummers! Thank you!

  • You had me at bacon! I make something similar to this for the holidays and I never thought of adding bacon in the mix. Definitely going to try this! Thanks for sharing with us!

  • I am not a bacon fan, but would be interested to try it like this. It seems like the pecan would mask some if that bacon flavor and that chocolate will make it wonderful

  • I have never craved bacon and chocolate until now. This sounds delicious and the added crunch of pecans. Looks like I will be trying a new recipe soon!
