Scarlett Johansson Wows As Black Widow In Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Scarlett Johansson, Captain America Press Event, March 12, 2014, Los Angeles, CA

How awesome is it that I got a chance to meet and interview Scarlett Johansson?! She has been acting since she was a child, I am a fan for sure. She was around for the Captain America: The Winter Soldier press junket in Los Angeles last month and stopped in for a few minutes to speak with our group. Johansson looked amazing, she walked into the room in a feminine, white blazer and heels, and immediately, all eyes were on HER.

Johansson plays Natasha Romanoff, better known as the powerful female superhero, Black Widow. Without giving up to much information and spoliers, I will say that she plays a pretty bad-ass character in the movie. If you’ve seen the Avengers, you know that Black Widow has a rough past. She is a fearless, dynamic woman who guards her personal life and her heart. Here are a few remarks that Scar Jo made about her role in the movie…

Captain America and Black Widow

Black Widow matures in this movie, and Johansson says that it has been interesting. In precious films, you don’t see much of ‘Natasha’, but more of her as Black Widow. They were able to show a little bit of the back story in The Avengers movie, and now, with this movie, they reveal more so we’re learning more about her as ‘Natasha’. She even shows her compassionate side, playing Cupid and trying to hook Captain America up!

Johansson did some of her own stunts, but left a lot of the work to her “stunt girlfriend” Heidi Moneymaker. They have been working together since the beginning of Johansson’s Marvel days and have developed a consistent fighting style that we all see. “You know, it’s badass but it’s kind of sexy. It’s a little bit like, flirtatious, I guess, the style. And it’s balletic giving a kind of a little, a nod to her past gymnastics.” Heidi does a bunch of ridiculous things with her body that Johansson says she could never do. She is thankful, and believes that Moneymaker deserves most of the credit!

Johansson says that the Black Widow costume is one of the most comfortable superhero suits ever. It’s like a wet suit and it zips on pretty easily. “It doesn’t require a built-in air conditioning unit, like Hemsworth [Thor] does. I don’t have under armor or any of that kind of, I don’t have a huge leather cape, headdress, whatever, all that stuff. You know, it’s, it’s pretty straight forward. It’s kinda like a wet suit actually.” Once you get the boots, gloves, belt and guns on, it’s pretty bad ass. Johansson says that she was terrified of the costume at first, but embraces it now.

Johansson loves playing the Black Widow character, she has such a great source of material and it is a welcomes challenge to do a “female superhero movie where the protagonist didn’t kind of rest on her feminine wiles and, you know, use every opportunity to strike a sexy pose in order to get the job done.” She’s a fun character who uses her brain, yet she is a playful character. With all of this, there is a chance that Marvel would consider a Black Widow movie [I read that there have been talks about it!].

You can keep up with Scar Jo and all of her Marvel happenings, she’s not only in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but has also previously been in Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and will be in the next Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015 and *hopefully* starring in the Black Widow movie!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, In Theaters April 4th!

Don’t miss Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it’s out in theaters TOMORROW, April 4th! It is a great addition to the Marvel family of movies, if you are into action, adventure and light humor, this is a MUST-SEE! I would not recommend taking young children, as there are many fight scenes, explosions, shooting,  slight blood, bruising, and the like. I would say that a mature 10+ year old would be able to handle it. I also interviewed Chris Evans, who plays Captain America and Kevin Feige, producer of the movie.
